Work, Rest and Play"Work, rest and play" is a fitting slogan that describes life in South-East Queensland. Our equitable climate makes all three aspects or our life-style very attractive, compared with many other parts of the world – even with other parts of Australia. Let us take them one by one. Queensland is booming! All economists agree with that. Queensland's strong economic growth is generating jobs for skilled (and unskilled) workers in both the private and Government sectors. The Queensland Government, first under Premier Beattie and now under the premiership of Anna Bligh, encourages strong investment in the State's economy. Rightly, we call ourselves the Smart State. In fact, Queensland is creating more jobs than any other state in Australia. No wonder business is heading north – to Queensland. As business heads north, so do people, because business is driven by people. Therefore infrastructure also has to be developed, resulting in still more jobs. Whether your interest is in major projects, such as engineering, hospitality, construction, education or any other endeavour, Queensland is the place to come. We invite you to come and share in our present and future prosperity. Queensland is not all Brisbane. We are a decentralised state. More than half the population lives outside the Brisbane metropolitan area. If you choose to live in Brisbane, the infrstructure is in place, or soon will be, for you to travel in and out of the City centre. But life is more that just work, work, work. Life is also meant to be enjoyed. And here, life can be enjoyed. We have plenty of sunshine. You can relax on our many beaches, from the famous Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast to the relatively unknown surf beaches on North Stradbroke Island or Fraser Island. The hinterland offers wild-life attractions, where you can get 'up close and personal' with koalas, lorikeets – or crocodiles! Are you more interested in sport? Whether spectator sports or hands-on sporting activities, the opportunities are endless – golf, surfing, football, cricket. They are all yours to enjoy, if you so wish. The things people travel half-way around the world to see, are right on your doorstep in South-East Queensland. Theme parks abound, from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast. You can visit Movieworld, Dreamworld, Seaworld, or the famous Australia Zoo, all within an hour or two driving disance from Brisbane. South-East Queensland is also famous for its vineyards. You can go on a wine tasting tour in the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt country-side. If you are a party animal, you can enjoy South-East Queensland's nightlife or world-class restaurants. Whatever your taste, South-East Queensland is the place to be. We would love to see you.
